Is it just me, or has winter seemed extra long this year? Even though it is almost March, it still feels like winter is hanging on in my area. January and February are long months in normal years, and with the added pandemic restrictions they felt longer this year. So, to help us combat the last bit of winter and look forward to Spring coming in late March, I am brainstorming 34 Spring self-care ideas to get you looking forward to leaving winter in the dust!
Even though we are talking about spring self-care ideas, many of these can still be used before winter is officially over. The long, dark, dreary winter can take its toll on our mental, emotional, and physical health. Self-care is the antidote to the winter blues! By having a steady diet of self-care, you can ensure you are feeling your best and healthy all winter long.

Even if you are struggling as winter is ending, it is ok. Spring self-care is not a magic fix for battling the winter blues. Take time to slowly introduce some self-care as you feel up to it, and be kind and gentle with yourself during this process. Between the long cold winter, and the ongoing pandemic, this year has been difficult for many.

Please be conscious of your feelings and consider if there may be something more than just winter blues going on with you. If you feel depressed, uncaring, or unmotivated over an extended period of time, in a way that is unusual for you, then please seek professional medical help. If you are having suicidal thoughts, then reach out to the professionals. There is no shame in working with experts to help you feel better.
Spring is a time for new beginnings and growth. After the hibernation of the long cold winter, flowers, animals, people, and the earth start to re-emerge and begin to show signs of life. Color is also a common theme of spring. Soft pastels seem to be brilliant after the dull grey and white winter.
I am dividing up this list differently than I have done for some of my other self-care ideas. Spring is such an indoor/outdoor season for me, so I have divided the activities into indoor and outdoor-based lists. Enjoy!

Indoor Spring Self-Care Ideas
- Spring clean your home (or a room or area of your home).
- Cozy up at home during a spring storm and watch a movie.
- Do a spring-based craft like this to Welcome Spring or this to celebrate Easter.
- Start looking for seasonal spring recipes to make something special with. Grilled Asparagus is the taste of spring for me!
- Give yourself a spring manicure and pedicure with fun spring colors.
- Find a fun spring-scented candle and enjoy a refreshing new scent at home.
- Journal your thoughts about new growth and what you want this spring.
- Redecorate your home or give it a fun spring refresh with some items from Etsy.
- Revisit your daily morning or evening routine and give it a spring re-fresh by adding new spring scents or a look towards renewal.
- Open up your windows and curtains and let the outside come in!
- Start your summer garden seeds inside rather than buying starts this year.
- Do a home spa day and focus on light, spring scents like floral or lemon in your lotions, masks, and scrubs.
- Start a new indoor hobby or learn a new skill.
- Give your look a spring update with a new haircut or a few new spring wardrobe pieces.
- Buy yourself fresh spring flowers to enjoy at home or your office. Tulips are my favorite!
- Plan for new financial growth by increasing your retirement or savings contributions.
- Create a springtime music playlist!

Outdoor Spring Self-Care Ideas
- Go for a walk around the block and look for signs of spring.
- Go outside and stand with the sun on your face for 5-10 minutes.
- Take your Youtube fitness class outdoors on a nice day.
- Meet a friend for coffee and a walk around town.
- Plan a picnic or meal outside.
- Limit screen time and spend more time outside.
- Start planning your summer garden.
- Take a day trip on a sunny weekend and play tourist in a nearby town.
- Find a new outdoor hobby or skill you can learn!
- Wash and detail your car after a dirty winter!
- Clean up the garden area and flower beds and dream of how they will look in full bloom!
- Explore your local parks and scope out the best summer spots!
- Meet some girlfriends for a drink or wine tasting on the patio (if you live in the north, look for a place that has heaters or fireplaces to be a little more comfortable!).
- Watch a sunrise or sunset.
- Look for an opportunity to volunteer outside for a fun run or cleanup day.
- Visit an outdoor farmers market when they start in late spring.
- Eat lunch outside when the weather is nice.

Self-care is a necessity, but it doesn’t have to break the bank! Many of these ideas are low-cost or can be done on a budget with some planning! Consider inviting a friend on some of these adventures. Having a friend along allows you to share the cost of gas and can provide some beneficial social interactions.
Remember, making changes to your wardrobe, home decor, or outside landscaping does not require a complete do-over. Adding one or two impactful statement pieces can make a big impact while costing a fraction of a complete redo. Small savings can make a big impact on your wealth.

So many great ideas! I would love to get myself motivated to do even a few of these. We had unusually warm weather for the last couple of days so I forced myself to get outside.
