We are back on the track for a simple, delicious, and Chinese dinner for one in the air fryer this week! This dinner can’t get much simpler! A frozen package of fried rice and frozen potstickers in the air fryer. Drizzle with some fun sauce and you have a great flavorful meal ready in 10 minutes! Let’s check out the details on how this meal comes together so quickly and how you can customize it to your taste!

I started this recipe with what I had in my freezer. In my case, it was Tai Pei Chicken Fried Rice and Ling Link Chicken and Veggie potstickers. You can easily substitute your favorite brand of these items. If you are feeling ambitious, and have leftover rice, you can easily make your own fried rice. It takes just a couple of minutes and the flavor will be way better than frozen! Here is a quick fried rice recipe to get you started!
This is also an easy recipe to make dietary substitutions. If you are vegetarian or vegan, simply choose a vegetarian or vegan-friendly fried rice and potsticker brand. You can also reduce carbs by using frozen cauliflower fried rice instead. There are so many opportunities to make this your own!

There is one thing you need to pay attention to when you are cooking the potstickers. The wrappers can dry out in the air fryer, and end up as rock hard inedible potstickers. The key is to put oil on them before you start cooking, and be liberal with the oil! Most of the oil will drip off or evaporate so you are not eating greasy potstickers, but it helps the wrapper cook without drying out. You could also pan-fry these potstickers in a traditional pan-fry/steam method on the stovetop if you prefer.
Let’s get cooking!
Air Fryer Potstickers and Fried Rice Dinner!
Equipment
- 1 Air Fryer
- 1 Microwave
Ingredients
- 5 each Frozen Potstickers
- 1 package Tai Pei Frozen Fried Rice
Instructions
- Preheat the air fryer to 380 degrees.
- Remove frozen potstickers from the package and coat liberally with olive oil or another neutral tasting oil like vegetable oil. Be liberal, this is what keeps the wrapper from drying out when cooking.
- Place potstickers in the air fryer so they are not touching, and set the timer for 8 minutes. Check after 5 minutes and see if you need to flip or brush with more oil.
- Prepare fried rice in the microwave according to the package instructions.
- When the potstickers are finished, plate the rice and top it with potstickers. Feel free to dress it up with soy sauce, siracha, or green onions for an extra flair!
Notes
- This dinner is only one serving. The calories are 770
- The cost for this dinner is $4.25 based on the medium cost of living grocery store purchase price.
- This dinner is so flexible depending on your tastes. Add sauce or other toppings like soy sauce, sweet chili sauce, sriracha, green onions, hoisin sauce, or anything else that sounds good from your fridge!
- Fried rice is the best meal for fighting food waste! Before you start check your fridge to see if there are any leftover veggies or meat that you can add to the fried rice!
- Substitute your favorite Chinese finger foods in place of the potstickers if they are not your favorite. This recipe would work great with egg rolls, wontons, or spring rolls too!
At just $4.25 for one serving, this is a low-cost alternative to Chinese take-out. The calories are 770 for this meal, which is a little higher than I usually shoot for. But, it is going to be way less than Chinese take-out, so consider that a win! You can reduce the calories by looking for options with less meat, or substituting cauliflower rice or more veggies into the frozen potstickers in the air fryer meal.

Don’t forget how small changes can add up in big ways. By skipping the fast food and making these frozen potstickers in the air fryer for less than $5 you can easily save yourself $10 on dinner tonight. Rinse and repeat several times and you are on your way to saving money that can grow for your future! If you need some other air fryer ideas, check out my complete list here.
